SUMMARY:The Apple Stand: Intermediate Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Apple Stand is an intermediate level painting inspired by the many apple orchards in Minnesota we all love. With this being a longer workshop\, we will take a short break halfway through. There will be an outline on the canvas\, so not to worry about drawing skills!   We couldn’t possibly paint this without some cider to sip\, so help yourself to our cider\, hot cocoa\, or coffee\, etc. We welcome our painters to sip and snack while they paint! DESCRIPTION:We’re bringing Owl’s Perch for an encore this fall. We start with a black canvas\, giving us opportunity to create interesting feather texture with white paint. This owl is inspired by the Burrowing Owl\, known for its long legs. Your owl can be perched on a pumpkin like ours\, or on something less distinctive like a simple fence post. Our instructor will be demonstrating with the pumpkin.  Bring your own beverage\, treat\, or enjoy a hot beverage on us. We invite our painters to sip and snack while they paint! DESCRIPTION:The fall sign board is back for another workshop! You can come paint this on a new signboard\, or bring back your spring\, summer\, or winter signboards and paint the other side for a $10 discount. This signboard doesn’t require any prep-work; we begin on the raw\, unfinished wood. Our signboard workshops are 4 hours\, as we like to take our time\, and take a break in the middle as needed. Bring your favorite snacks & beverages\, or enjoy a coffee or tea we have available. This is a beautiful sign to put on your front step September-November! We believe the “Welcome” for our signboards are understood by the viewer as they approach your front door. With art like this\, how could they not feel welcomed? However\, any palette which has a larger-sized mixing area or areas is good. \nBrushes:     A variety of brushes will work. Here are some I use: \nFlats ranging from 1/2 to 2 in width. \nRounds\, #’s 6\, 8 & 10 \nA script brush (also called a rigger) for fine line detail. \nWatercolor Paper:       There are many papers you can buy. Your most cost-efficient means would be to buy a tablet of high quality watercolor paper. I prefer 140 pound Arches Cold Press or Rough paper\, either sheets or blocks (stack of paper glued together on the edges). Whatever paper you buy\, I strongly suggest you do NOT get a paper that has a shiny appearance to the surface. These can be very frustrating to paint on. In my opinion\, it is worth every penny to buy a higher quality paper so you can experience success. \nSomething to Put Your Paper On:     You will need a flat surface on which to place and/or fasten your paper\, such as a piece of plywood or tile board\, and a 2-3 in prop for under your board (wood block or book\, etc. ). \nOther Supplies that are helpful (*=required): \n*masking tape (I use this to tape my paper to the board) \n*#2 or softer pencil \n*kneaded eraser \n*sketch pad \n*sunglasses (helps to see values quickly) \nArt Masking Fluid (not necessary) \nSpray bottle for water (very helpful) \nsalt \nsponge \nWhere to get your supplies: \n1. I highly recommend Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff. They specialize in watercolor supplies. You can find them on-line at www.cheapjoes.com or give them a call at 1-800-227-2788. This is where I order my supplies and I have been completely satisfied for years. \n2. Another quality place is Art Supply Warehouse\, www.aswexpress.com  or 1-800-995-6778. \n3.
