We outline the image with chalk onto a black canvas before painting step by step with acrylic paint. SUMMARY:Loose Watercolor Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered how to paint loosely with watercolor for that “effortless” look? Try the tricks of the trade with local artist\, Sara Porter\, as your instructor. With demonstrations and one-on-one assistance\, this is a hands-on experience that will open up your painting to a whole new world! This is a 3 hour workshop with a focus on learning rather than our regular paint-along classes. All supplies are provided\, but you may bring any of your own favorite watercolor paints\, brushes or paper. We will be practicing on Strathmore 400 Series cold press 140 lb paper. This workshop is designed for adults and teens ages 16+\, of beginner level. If you’ve dabbled with watercolor and struggle to “let go” of tight detail control\, or have always wanted to try watercolor–this is the class for you! Techniques and subjects covered may include\, but not limited to\, the images shown. Learn how to start a painting when you have painters block\, and practice “seeing” in shapes and patterns to develop your subject. Learn how to let watercolor do what it does best. Bring your favorite beverages and treats\, but as always\, enjoy a coffee or tea on us. Seating is limited to 8 to ensure ease of visibility and maximize the one-on-one time per person. Currently\, besides teaching at Kicks since 2018\, she teaches elementary and high school art classes to home school co-op groups. Her class sizes have varied from 4 to 28 students\, K-12. While she enjoys teaching\, she seeks time-out to paint in the studio or outdoors. Sara struggles to isolate a single medium as a favorite. She finds enjoyment in the freedom to grab whatever medium suits her mood. This results in a variety of classes for Kicks! In addition to teaching\, Sara shows original works for sale at Kicks and offers pet portraits in paint or dry media\, such as colored pencil and soft pastels. SUMMARY:Watercolor Jellyfish: Paint and Sip
DESCRIPTION:Who says a paint and sip always has to be in acrylic paint? Watercolor can be just as fun! Jellyfish are the perfect\, organic shape to paint– they are literal “blobs.”  There are no drawing skills needed to paint a blob\, and no templates needed.   The secret is water.  Two hours is plenty of time to watch a demonstration and try it yourself a few times before making your own. Come to have fun\, bring your favorite beverage and snacks\, and we’ll have coffee and tea available. This isn’t an intense “class”\, although\, we like those too. This is a fun paint and sip!  If you really want to learn more techniques\, take a look at the workshop the Wednesday night before! NOTE:  If you attended the workshop on the previous Wednesday night\, receive $10 off of this class!  (You are not required to attend the workshop to come to this event\,) All materials are provided! We use student grade paper to practice\, and then will switch to ARCHES professional watercolor paper for your final jellyfish at an 8×10 size.  Your painting will turn out even better on professional grade paper. Be sure to sign up in advance!  We limit the size of these classes to be sure everyone can see\, as watercolor is painted flat on the table.
