I hope you like the options we have in September! Apple Orchards were always an annual activity for my family when my kids were younger. I hope this painting brings up many happy memories for you as well! I consider this one to be an intermediate level\, but as usual\, no drawing skills are necessary! We will transfer the outline and paint step by step\, beginning with the background and working in layers. There will be times I’ll ask you to mix a couple colors on your plate to create lighter or darker values\, but I’m always able to help.  I think you’ll enjoy getting that chalky-chalkboard look on the sign. The shadows are important in this one\, which is why I consider it to be an intermediate level. SUMMARY:Signboard Workshop: Red Wing Blackbird
DESCRIPTION:Paint your fall signboard before the air cools! Bring your favorite beverage and snacks if you wish\, as we paint our signboards together\, step by step. We provide a template for the bird and the cattail perch\, so no drawing skills are necessary! Our seasonal signboards are a great front door welcome for your home! See our holiday signboards in a smaller\, coordinating board– a Halloween/Thanksgiving design is coming soon! Our signboards are double-sided\, giving the option to return to our studio at another seasonal workshop to paint the other side. See Project Description below for more details! Tickets must be purchased in advance and are limited to 8\, in order to maintain comfortable working space for the signboards. Ages 18+ please! \n$120Project Description: This is a four hour workshop with short intermittent breaks. The boards are 4 ft x 18 in. Acrylic paint is used with various brushes\, sponges and rags. We have aprons\, but keep in mind this paint does not wash out of clothes. We provide gloves as an option\, as it can get a little messy for some parts of the process. The boards are propped up off the floor about 2 feet and a stool is provided\, but expect some bending and reaching. There’s usually enough room to lay it across the table if necessary.   IF YOU ARE RETURNING WITH A SIGNBOARD-– typically\, we need time to prep the boards in advance\, but this design requires no prepping. DESCRIPTION:The term “painting with paper” was first associated with artist Henry Matisse\, who would say he was “drawing with scissors.”  Since then\, paper has become much more prevalent in the world of fine art.  Since the scrap booking trend hit the scene\, we have had access to thousands of colors and patterns. Now\, mixed media art combines all the possibilities of wet and dry media into fabulous works of art. This workshop explores the endless possibilities of torn paper with a variety of materials\, including: paint\, texture applications\, stamps\, ink\, fabric/textiles.  A template of a honey bee will be used to create a “painting” out of paper. Local artist\, Sara Porter\, will demonstrate and provide hands on instruction in making a Mixed Media Honey Bee work of art. This is a two-day workshop\, Wednesday the 19th and Thursday the 20th\, from 6-8 pm.  Space is LIMITED for this unique workshop\, so do not wait to get your ticket! The deadline to sign up is Monday night\, the 17th\, at 8 pm. See project description for more details on each night. \nAges 16+ Required \n$90 (covers both evenings\, not able to be separated) \nProject Description: \nWednesday\, Aug 19:    It all begins with creating a world for your honey bee to live in. We will spend this first night on the background and the various techniques used to create texture in a dynamic composition. Demonstrations and instructions will cover topics such as: creating a composition that’s nice to look at\, how to choose a color scheme\,  how much “stuff:” is too much\,  texture applications\, using stamps\, ink\, and paint\, the power of text in your composition\, and how to use value (lights and darks) to your advantage.   That might sound complicated\, but even if you don’t understand everything\, you”ll have our assistance and you’ll have fun “playing” with all the “stuff.”    The instructions from this first night are important to establish your overall plan for what you will do on the 2nd night. Whatever you don’t finish on Wednesday\, you will continue where you left off on Thursday.  Wet media may include: acrylic paint\, modge podge\, glue\, and ink stamps. DESCRIPTION:Whimsical Bumblebees hover over purple flowers in this loosely painted watercolor. This painting class is geared towards anyone who has had some practice with watercolor\, which is why we are offering $10 off for anyone who attended the workshop prior to this class on Wednesday the 12th!  The workshop is NOT required to attend this event! We will spend time practicing the techniques before painting our bumblebees.  Watch the water do most of the work and you suddenly have cute\, fluffy bees. SUMMARY:Watercolor Jellyfish: Paint and Sip
DESCRIPTION:Who says a paint and sip always has to be in acrylic paint? Watercolor can be just as fun! Jellyfish are the perfect\, organic shape to paint– they are literal “blobs.”  There are no drawing skills needed to paint a blob\, and no templates needed.   The secret is water.  Two hours is plenty of time to watch a demonstration and try it yourself a few times before making your own. Come to have fun\, bring your favorite beverage and snacks\, and we’ll have coffee and tea available. This isn’t an intense “class”\, although\, we like those too. This is a fun paint and sip!  If you really want to learn more techniques\, take a look at the workshop the Wednesday night before! SUMMARY:Loon in Water-Mixable Oil Paint and Sip
DESCRIPTION:This year\, during the Loon Festival\, we are going to paint a loon in water-mixable oil paint. It doesn’t sound possible\, but Winsor and Newton has a line of oil paint that is able to be thinned with water\, yet offers much of the same qualities as oil paint. This paint is easy to use thinned down to get the soft\, blended look so characteristic of oil paint. For more details\, read project description below.   Ages 18+ for this class please! \n$50 \nProject Description: 12×16  stretched canvas    Water Mixable Oil Paint    We will begin our painting with the loon\, water and upper sky with a black under-painting with acrylic. The rest of the painting is done with thinned water-mixable oil paint over the top. With W.M. Oil\, It is surprisingly easy to add the colors and white dots when the loon is already black!\nBecause we are using a thinned-down technique\, it doesn’t take as long to dry as usual. SUMMARY:New! Holiday Signboard: Patriotic
DESCRIPTION:Introducing the first of our new Holiday Collection signboard! We have planned these to coordinate with our seasonal signboards– (the Bobber\, the Butterfly\, the Snowman\, and the Blackbird.)  Like those\, these are double-sided to add another design to the other side at a future workshop. This is a great workshop to start out the summer with America celebrating 250 years. Display it periodically or all year!   I ( Sara) had so much fun distressing this board! Taking it from a smooth\, unfinished board\, to rough and beaten up was loud\, but fun! For more details\, read on below.  This is a paint and sip style workshop. Bring your own favorite beverages and snacks. Coffee and tea are available on us. Ages 18+ for this workshop please!  The price of these new holiday signboards will vary\, depending on the design and how much prep and time they take. \n$60 \nProject Description:  We begin with an unfinished board\, 1″ x 12″ x 3′     Using various tools\, including hammers\, we will distress the board on the edges and surface\, roughing it up to look old.  After we stain the board to our liking\, we will be using acrylic paint and nailing the star in place. Guilding wax is available in various metallics to add to your star if you like.  Ear plugs for noise protection and safety glasses will be available while we distress the boards. \nTicket Policy: \n*No refunds \n*Sign up in advance! SUMMARY:The Bobber
DESCRIPTION:If the father in your life is a fisherman\, here’s an option for you.  Consider painting The Bobber for him or scheduling quality time painting together! The Bobber has been very popular on our large\, wooden boards\, but we also offer it on this 10×20 stretch canvas. Text on the Bobber is completely optional and not necessary to have a complete painting\, but you are welcome to add your name to the Bobber or special order a name added afterwards at an additional cost. This class is designed to be paint and sip style\, with no experience necessary. Bring your own beverage/treats\, or enjoy a coffee or tea on us!  Ages 16+ is recommended for this painting. For a younger teen friendly class for Father’s Day\, see our Fishing Lures Painting on June 19\, which will be ages 13+. \n$45 \nProject Description: 10×20 stretch canvas\, acrylic paint   beginner level    We use a template for the circle and the basic shape and lines of the bobber.  Details such as bubbles are added with a few little tricks up our sleeve. The fish line itself is done with a white paint marker. Assistance is available throughout the class\, as time allows. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the beauty of the blossoming trees minus the allergies!  Sara paints with you\, step by step\,  a charming\, storybook scene of an old tire swing under a tree in its full bloom. This painting offers us some intermediate level opportunities\, yet is easily simplified for the beginner! For the intermediate painter\, learn how to paint layers of land with a path leading to the swing\, giving us that illusion of space and distance. A simplified version removes the extra land\, and simplifies the foreground. Try new brush techniques with Sara to create all the various shades of pink in the tree.
