SUMMARY:New! Holiday Signboard: Patriotic
DESCRIPTION:Introducing the first of our new Holiday Collection signboard! We have planned these to coordinate with our seasonal signboards– (the Bobber\, the Butterfly\, the Snowman\, and the Blackbird.)  Like those\, these are double-sided to add another design to the other side at a future workshop. This is a great workshop to start out the summer with America celebrating 250 years. Display it periodically or all year!   I ( Sara) had so much fun distressing this board! Taking it from a smooth\, unfinished board\, to rough and beaten up was loud\, but fun! For more details\, read on below.  This is a paint and sip style workshop. Bring your own favorite beverages and snacks. Coffee and tea are available on us. Ages 18+ for this workshop please!  The price of these new holiday signboards will vary\, depending on the design and how much prep and time they take. \n$60 \nProject Description:  We begin with an unfinished board\, 1″ x 12″ x 3′     Using various tools\, including hammers\, we will distress the board on the edges and surface\, roughing it up to look old.  After we stain the board to our liking\, we will be using acrylic paint and nailing the star in place. Guilding wax is available in various metallics to add to your star if you like.  Ear plugs for noise protection and safety glasses will be available while we distress the boards. \nTicket Policy: \n*No refunds \n*Sign up in advance! SUMMARY:250 Years of Liberty: Commemorative Wall Hanging
DESCRIPTION:We are celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary with a wooden wall hanging event. With various star stencils\, paint colors\, knob selections\, there’s room for creativity while following along\, step by step. Check out that gold leaf! This is a “paint and sip” style workshop\, feel free to bring your own beverages (including wine) and snacks! We will provide coffee and tea. Great date night option or a girls night out! We have limited space for this event\, so don’t wait to get your ticket! Ages 18+ please for this event. \n$60 \nProject Description:  One wooden heart with vertical panels on one side\, smooth on the other. We are using the paneled side\, but can tape off the back if you want to paint another design on the back for another use! We first distress the board with stain\, and apply the colors with glaze and/or thinned down acrylic paint. After stenciling the stars\, numbers and words\, we use a gold leaf application wherever it’s desired– a sparkly mess\, but lots of fun!  We have various knobs in acrylic or metal for you to choose from. SUMMARY:Summer Signboard: The Bobber
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular request! The Bobber is our summer design from our 4 season collection. Our signboards are double sided\, offering the ability to paint another season on the other side for $15 off. If you are bringing a board from a previous class\, please read instructions below*. For more details about this project\,  continue on to “Project Description .”\nJust like our canvas painting classes\, we encourage you to bring your favorite beverage and snacks. We have coffee and tea available. Ages 18+ please \n$120\nProject Description: This board is 12” x 48”. We prep the board in advance with a background stain. Paint along\, step by step\, using tools and tricks like templates\, paint markers\, lint-free rags and of course\, paintbrushes. These workshops are 4 hours\, and can require some kneeling\, bending\, and both standing and sitting. We take a break in the middle and as needed. \n*If returning with a board from a previous class\, please contact us before purchasing your ticket to receive your discount. SUMMARY:Loose Watercolor Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered how to paint loosely with watercolor for that “effortless” look? Try the tricks of the trade with local artist\, Sara Porter\, as your instructor. With demonstrations and one-on-one assistance\, this is a hands-on experience that will open up your painting to a whole new world! This is a 3 hour workshop with a focus on learning rather than our regular paint-along classes. All supplies are provided\, but you may bring any of your own favorite watercolor paints\, brushes or paper. We will be practicing on Strathmore 400 Series cold press 140 lb paper. This workshop is designed for adults and teens ages 16+\, of beginner level. If you’ve dabbled with watercolor and struggle to “let go” of tight detail control\, or have always wanted to try watercolor–this is the class for you! Techniques and subjects covered may include\, but not limited to\, the images shown. Learn how to start a painting when you have painters block\, and practice “seeing” in shapes and patterns to develop your subject. Learn how to let watercolor do what it does best. Bring your favorite beverages and treats\, but as always\, enjoy a coffee or tea on us. Seating is limited to 8 to ensure ease of visibility and maximize the one-on-one time per person. She has a Studio Art Degree from Northwestern University\, Roseville\, MN with an emphasis in oil painting. Currently\, besides teaching at Kicks since 2018\, she teaches elementary and high school art classes to home school co-op groups. Her class sizes have varied from 4 to 28 students\, K-12. While she enjoys teaching\, she seeks time-out to paint in the studio or outdoors. Sara struggles to isolate a single medium as a favorite. She finds enjoyment in the freedom to grab whatever medium suits her mood. This results in a variety of classes for Kicks! In addition to teaching\, Sara shows original works for sale at Kicks and offers pet portraits in paint or dry media\, such as colored pencil and soft pastels.
